Description:
---------------------------------------------
The Alco Killer was when Ex-partner GE arrived on the market as a mainline Locomotive builder with the
"U", for Universal, series. The U36B was one of a long line of GE U-boats and was an early fast
freight specialist and more powerfull then all competitors existing models.

From Conrail Cyclopedia, http://crcyc.railfan.net/locos/ge/u36/u36bproto.html:
The four U36B's that Conrail purchased in 1976 were originally built for Auto Train but never delivered
due to AT's financial difficulties at the time. The units were built to Seaboard Coast Line specs,
complete with Blomberg trucks; however, at Conrail's request GE replaced these with AAR Type-B trucks.

The SCL specs can be seen in the various details of the locomotives. Many of these details are
unique among Conrail units: firecracker antenna, red and white signal light in the short hood,
five chime horns, and SCL style rounded pilot. As time progressed, Conrail removed some of these
ACL details. Sinclair antennas replaced the firecrackers, the rounded side cab windows were
plated over. Horns were replaced with other styles.
